Last night at Praise, Professor Blanco used a golf analogy to describe our relationship with Jesus.
Sometimes, like a golfer tends to look up and lose sight of the ball, we lose our vision of our Savior, the main thing that should always be the focus of our lives. His message reminded me of this verse:
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith."- Hebrews 12:2
Although the analogy was used for different purposes, I applied it to my own situation- I am "golfing in the dark", so to say, and if keeping your eyes on the ball is hard in the light, imagine what it is like to golf in the dark.
I shot him an e-mail saying that I am still trying to keep the "eyes on the ball", but it's hard in the dark, and I'd like to share with you his response:
Hope is a good thing to have, and a blessing from Jesus. To milk this metaphor for all it’s worth, there is such a thing as night golfing, where they have special “glow in the dark” golf balls with lights in them that blink on and off so you can track them. Jesus is like that, no? Just when we think he’s lost “in the rough,” he shines out again for us to see and gain hope in his love.
Exactly! I seem to have lost sight of my ball and not noticed the little light out in the rough.
Jesus hasn't left me, He's just a "glow ball" right now, and the glow ball will never lose its light!
It amazes me how God continues to find ways to speak to me in this present darkness.
