Jelly Beans

I ate too many jelly beans tonight. (I still have a lot from my Easter baskets)

But it made me think about something...

In a bag, there are many different colors- purple, red, yellow, orange, green, pink.

I really don't like the red/yellow/orange/purple. Pink are by far my favorite, and green comes in a close second.

And I was thinking tonight, "What if I could buy a bag full of pink jelly beans?"

But you know, I don't think I would like them. I wouldn't appreciate them.

Life is like a bag of jelly beans. We're given all kinds of things we may not think are quite so "good" in our eyes- the colors of jelly beans we'd rather pick out.

And then, we have the pink jelly beans too- the good times- the blessings in our life.

But it would be hard to thank God for them if it weren't for the other color jelly beans.

God gives us a life full of all colors of jelly beans.

Sometimes, we don't always like the flavor. But if it weren't for the colors we didn't really like, we wouldn't truly thank God and savor all of the pink jelly beans.

And though they may seem unfavorable/undesirable, they're still jelly beans from God.

It's your choice- you can grumble about them and set them aside, or you can chomp down on them in anticipation of finishing them and reaching the pink jelly beans.

Thanks, God, for all colors of jelly beans. And for all of the blessings your Hand pours forth.

  2. My fave are the pink ones too. I agree 100%! How can you appreciate the sweet without tasting a bit of the sour? ~CC

  4. I'm with Becca - I don't like jelly beans, but this metaphor is awesome! I especially love (and I think it's easy to skip over this, but it's so important) "And though they may seem unfavorable/undesirable, they're still jelly beans from God." I love that despite everything, you keep having this attitude. Dylan, I really admire you.
