Whew!
Night one of VBS was a success. I am completely exhausted, so this is going to be short. Other than moldy raspberries, and a few remarks about the naked baby doll I used for my lesson, things went very well! Success!
Tonight's theme was "God takes care of us." The story was from Exodus (I forget the chapter), about baby Moses in the basket, and God taking care of him as he floated down the river.
During my lesson, I had a dead flower and a flower in a vase. I asked about the difference between the two flowers, and then explained that I took good care of one, and not so good care of another one.
Then I showed my pet duck (just a stuffed duck), but I asked about things I needed to do to take care of my pet, and what would happen if I didn't.
Then I told the story of Moses in the basket, with a fake baby and basket, and fake river.
Next, students told my two puppet friends ways that God takes care of them.
Finally, we drew pictures of ways God takes care of us and shared them with the puppet friends. I gave each student a fake flower with a tag that said "God takes care of me." to take home with them.
Our memory verse was 1 Peter 5:7.
It was a fantastic lesson! I already am brewing ideas for tomorrow night!
Blessings:
-Getting to see the video of the Pastor's farewell service from my "adopted" congregations
-Many, many more oversized stuffed animals to add to our jungle! (See my Facebook for a picture)
-A great service last night and this morning that I played for
-Found out today I will receive money from my congregation as a scholarship for this year! WOOHOO!
-We beat our turnout from last year at VBS already! Another WOOHOO!
-Started a new book yesterday (yes, I made sure I took some "me" time since life is so crazy right now).
-God takes care of me! (you, too!)
I'm helping out with VBS this week too. :)
ReplyDeleteThe sleeping problems aren't from jet lag. I've had sleeping problems ever since I was a kid and in college it just got worse.
Glad it got off to such a great start!
