Had Enough?

Today's Gospel lesson came from Matthew 11, verse 28: "Come unto me, all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Wow!
What an invitation!

In modern language it's almost like Jesus is saying this:
I know you're tired. I know you're going through a lot. Have you had enough? Are you totally worn out? Are you tired of being sick? Have you had enough of being persecuted by others? Do you have little faith that you could go on even one more minute? You feel like you would like nothing more than a little sleep and time to relax? It's okay. I know what it's like to feel that way. I've been there. I want you know that I am here. My invitation is for you to join me for a little rest. Here you'll find that my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Come to my arms. Had enough? My arms are open for you to come and find some peace in. We're in this together. I know you have crosses to bear. But let me help you. That's what I'm here for. I will never leave you or forsake you. I will always provide the strength you need to endure just one more minute. Had enough? Come to me, and I will give you rest.

Thank God for His promises like this! In my illnesses, I found that God used them to show me His open arms are available for rest, peace, and comfort. The business of the world is hectic, but God stopped me from the chaos and opened His arms for me to rest in them.

And I have never found such a state of peace, contentment, and fulfillment as I did resting in His arms.

I know it's easy to get wrapped up in the hectic and crazy state of society. It's easy to forget that God is waiting right there for me to rest in His arms.

There will be times again where I've had enough and wanted nothing more than rest.

And His arms are wide open for me to find the fulfillment I so much crave for.

When it's time to lie down at night, give your problems, worries, and anxieties to God. He'll be up all night anyway.

It's almost as if we bring it all to Him in prayer and He says, "Okay, now you go to bed. I've got this covered."

Blessings:

  1. Such a great post, as usual! Love your thoughts and personal touches and stuff.
    Have fun golfing!

There's a song that our worship pastor wrote titled "Come Unto Me"--I'm pretty sure it's based on this exact passage from Matthew. It's from God's perspective (or I suppose Jesus's) for most of the song, and then flips over to the listener taking Him up on the offer toward the end. I love it (and the passage it was inspired by). It's such a great reminder!

He started another song based on this same passage, I think, that had a line about God wrapping us in His arms or something. I wish I could remember the line, because it goes along so perfectly with this idea!! The song isn't finished yet--at least, I don't think it is because we haven't sung it yet. I had the privilege of hearing parts of it when he asked my opinion, which was awesome. I'd love for him to finish it...
