I had lunch with my mentor professor today, Dr. U. She is just phenomenal.
As we were leaving, she told me this story. While she was coming into work this morning (she lives on a farm), there was a thick fog. She noticed some cattle in a field nearby, knee-deep in grass, and covered in the thick fog. She also noticed that the sun caused a complete rainbow to completely cover the fog. It was a beautiful seen, and she wished she could have stayed there.
But her point of telling the story was this- she said, "If God did that for that small herd of cattle, imagine the wonderful things He does and can do for us."
I told her it was an amazing analogy. And I really got to thinking... "What amazing things does God did God do for me today? In what situations was I "knee-deep" in the grass?
-It is Labor Day. While the majority of workplaces and schools were closed today, my university still had classes. Since I am a teacher now, I didn't have school, and my classes were both cancelled. While it really wasn't a "day-off" because I have so much to do, it was a good day.
-I went to chapel this morning. The message was right on, hilarious, and thought-provoking. It was about whether or not we can "see" faith.
-After that, I went and visited some music professors who were very happy to see me.
-Then I went and worked on my lesson plans for a while. I got some stuff done, (but it feels like I haven't even gotten a start on much...)
-I had lunch with my amazing professor and we had a great conversation and she was very encouraging.
-Next, I found out I get a free hardcover book from our upcoming literacy festival, so I picked up that slip.
-Then, I ran into another prof. and she was headed over to the art gallery. They have a display up of the original works of Corita Kent. They also had a film streaming about how to incorporate her works into teaching. We sat and watched it, and talked throughout about how lesson plans could be made, and then we walked around the gallery for a while. It was well worth our time, we agreed, because we got a lot of good ideas.
-I spent most of the afternoon working on lesson plans again (still don't feel like I accomplished much!)
-I had dinner with an awesome friend, one on one (as I did last night). That's going to be happening a LOT in the upcoming weeks as I catch up with everyone and find out how their summers were.
-Tonight I work and tomorrow I have methods and it's back to school!
I'm knee deep in grass and loving every moment of it!
I loved catching up with you at supper!
