I'm A Success Story

I'm a success story!

I heard it today firsthand from my psychiatrist.

Today has been another "knee-deep in grass" kind of day. I'll get to the above comment soon.

We had a great time in music methods class today and learned some... interesting... songs. We are still laughing about some of them!

Anyway, I got to the school I teach at and found out their printer had broke down... Which, was a major bummer because I had a ton of stuff to print to be ready for my lessons!

But, I've learned, always have a PLAN B.  So after some real running around and rushing through some stuff, I changed the direction of my lesson a little bit.

In the afternoon, the kids' behavior was bad. Yeah, let's leave it at that.

I got my first evaluation today from my co-op and it was an almost perfect evaluation! I was thrilled! The only area I really had to work on was getting the names of the boy students right. One comment that really made me feel like I am in the right place said something like...
"Dylan is exceptional with this age group and knowing their developmental needs. The children love to be around him." :)

After school, I had a check up with my psychiatrist. First one since June. She was thrilled with my progress! I am officially, a "success story!" according to her! And, I've been officially discharged from therapy!! (But I always have the fallback if I need it...) I still have to check up with my doctor, but, still, it's SUCH an amazing feeling to be given that pat on the back!

Conversion disorder? Panic attacks? Depression? Anxiety? OCD? Scalp picking? Friends turning into enemies? Cutting? Overall, being at the lowest of low?

And never giving up?

Yeah, that's right, I'm a success story! If you are reading this and you have struggles that are similar, or struggles of any kind, find comfort knowing: If I can do it, I know you can too. Keep trying, even when it's hard. Do not give up your faith in God, even when it's hard.

Do what is best for you. Keep fighting. I never imagined I would be where I am today. But here I am- and I can't imagine what else God has in store for me. Or you.

I was already on a happy high, but when I got to campus, I found this in my mailbox! I have no idea who it is from, but if it was you and you are reading this, THANK YOU! I wish I could thank you in person! You are amazing!

After I had dinner, I met with my supervisor. My first visit and observation by him is tomorrow. I'm not really nervous or anxious, I'm actually looking forward to it!

We're doing day 3 of shared reading... tomorrow is the mechanics component. I made up something called the punctuation station. Tomorrow, Mr. EP (exclamation point) is chugging on in and so is the boy with the corresponding face. I hope it goes over well with my students!

  3. That page for the punctuation station is awesome. I wish we did cool things like that when I was a kid. Or maybe we did, I don't really remember.

    I'm glad you're a success story. I am too. :)
