The Times When Thunder Rolls

For anyone who's counting, this is my 300th post. Woot!

It's been stormy today. One thing that always happens during storms, that I can count on, is that my cats will come and find me and lay beside me.

It's because they're scared. They don't like when the winds blow, and the thunder bellows, cracks, and rumbles. They're terrified.

And they always know they can find me and rest beside me while they wait the storm out. I don't refuse them.

This is going to be quick, but, I got to thinking, that's what happens in our own lives.

The storms come, life kicks us in the teeth, and we're terrified.

But we always know we can find God. And we can rest beside him while we wait out the storms.

He'll always be there waiting. While I can't promise my cats eternal comfort and security, God can promise us those very things.

When the thunder rolls, God's lap is always open, and His invitation always resounds: Come to me.

Okay- today has been fairly full...
Well, last night I learned my lesson about getting out of bed after I've taken sleeping pills. It is hard to walk, my head was spinning, and I felt really dizzy. I wanted to go downstairs and get a drink of water because I had the hiccups. Let's just say my knees hit the stairs and I fell quite a ways down and had struggles getting back up because I was so "out of it."

Started off and my grandma caught a mouse in a mousetrap so I preserved it, and then scared my sister with it.

We went mole hunting last night, and I stood out watching for the mole for a long time last night with a flashlight. Still no luck. My great uncle is going to come set a trap. My sister was laughing from the window and taking pictures.

I had to go into town to take care of some things. The highway is under road construction, and I was stopped because it's one lane traffic. I was first in line waiting for the pilot car, and the worker that was moving the stop sign back and forth waved at me, and then walked in front of my car. Much to my surprise, she proceeded to begin dancing, and I was laughing uncontrollably. She was doing kind of a "walk-like-an-egyptian-and-move-your-arms-like-a-robot-and-skake-your-legs"- it was by far the funniest dance I've ever seen. Then she grabbed her stop sign and resumed work, and I applauded her.

I went to the courthouse to get my license renewed. To my surprise, you are no longer allowed to smile for your picture! If you know me, you know I smile a lot, and it was a real challenge to keep a straight face. When I got my license, I was upset to see that I looked like a serial killer. It's a scary picture. I posted about it on my Facebook, and someone commented: "I didn't know it was possible for you to NOT smile!"  --- I'm happy knowing people see me as a happy person- not someone who is severely depressed.

I got the movie Salt as an early birthday present. By far one of the best movies I've ever seen and I look forward to seeing it again!

I am way behind in my packing. My sister suggested that she and I go see our great grandmother. I said "I have a lot of packing to do." She said "Packing can wait. Grandma is more important."

She was right. She wasn't there when we got there, but I was getting some things, and we realized someone was pulling up to drop her off. We went and hid behind her couch. She had no idea we were there (don't know how she missed our car in the driveway!") But she was surprised. When she saw us, her face lit up with a smile. That was worth it. And then on the way out, she said "You two made my day. Thank you." My sister was right. I've got a ton of packing to do (haha, I know I shouldn't be writing because I have so much to do!)

My birthday is tomorrow! (Friday)- I will be moving back to school on Saturday, so the earliest you'll hear from me will be Monday. But don't worry, I've got a post and then some guest posts scheduled in my absentia. See you in a few days! :)

  1. Happy early birthday! Actually, it's past midnight here, so it's officially your birthday! WOO!! How old are you? My guess: 23. My second guess: 22.

Yeah, it's weird that we're not allowed to smile in our license pictures anymore! In mine I'm not even looking at the camera, I'm sort of just glaring off to the side. haha.

Happy packing...! I'll be doing that this weekend too. yayyy

  2. Happy birthday!

I love my licence photo. I look young in it, because it was taken when I was 16 for my college bus pass photo, which you can smile it because it's not all that official. So I just used that for my licence. It's got a closed-mouth-semi-smile so it kind of looks like my face just fell like that. Brilliant :D My passport on the other hand.. yeah, let's not go there.
